• An effective and long lasting way of threating hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is characterized by excessive production of sweat. It is a common disease which may be unpleasant and cause problems. Excessive sweating is triggered by such factors as: • Physical excercise • Hot and cold • alcohol, coffee or tea, smoking, hot or spicy food • stress, anxiety and strong emotions • certain times of the day Botulinum toxin injection is a safe procedure which gives fast and long lasting results and improves significantly the quality of life of people who suffer from hyperhidrosis. This is a purified botolinum toxin type A produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Controlled growth of these bacteria is possible thanks to modern methods of bacterial cultivation. Using a fine needle, a doctor injects a small amount (0.1-0.2 ml) of botulinum toxin in 10-15 places approximately 1 cm apart, evenly covering the focal area of hyperhidrosis. Sometimes a dye is used to identify areas where sweating is greatest and where the injections should be placed. Treatment session lasts about 30 minutes. Botulinum toxin blocks the nerve’s ability to activate eccrine glands which are responsible for sweat production. The results of treatment vary individually. Sweat production is reduced by about 87% one week after Botulinum toxin was applied. In addition, 95% of patients experience reduction in volume sweat of about 50%. The effects of Botulinum toxin are maintained for 6-12 months, and after this time new nerve endings are created which replace the previously blocked. The next treatment may be carried out when the effects from previous session expire.

For a week before treatment, patient should avoid using antiperspirants. The treatment is preceded by a consultation with a doctor and minor test (starch-iodine test).

Botulinum toxin is a quick and painless treatment which allows patients to return to normal daily activities immediately. However, patients are advised to avoid intense exercise and prevent a body from overheating (i.e. sauna).
