Jak działa
In the laser surgery we use CO2 laser with a wavelength of 10 600 nm. It works at 30-100W operation power, and with variable pulse duration of 10-600 microseconds, at 0,25 J and frequency of 1 kHz. CO2 laser light is very well absorbed by water.
The evaporation of the laser beam – depending on the depth and size of skin lesion- can be performed using different laser modes (normalpuls, superpuls or ultrapuls). This procedure is safe; under the laser beam the targeted tissue is instantly evaporated. During this procedure, lymphatic and blood vessels are closed. The next day after the treatment, there may appear flat brown scab on the treated skin area.
Przed zabiegiem
Before treatment we provide patients with topical anesthetic. It is the less enjoyable phase of the treatment, especially when the skin changes are localized in well-innervated areas. (hands, feet, genital area). In case of some superficial skin changes (i.e. flat warts, cherry angiomas) anesthetic is not necessary – then during the procedure, patients may experience warmth and slight burning sensation.
Zabieg
CO2 laser concentrates beam of light on the targeted area of the skin. There is no direct contact with the skin and high temperature from the laser beam – this all ensures that the procedure is sterile. In contrary to other methods (surgery or cryosurgery), the patient can observe the results already during the treatment when changes on the skin are partially evaporated.
Patients of any age can undergo laser surgery, including children and pregnant women. If the treated area is large then there is a local anesthetic applied to alleviate the pain. The procedure performed on children is carried with an anesthesiologist who will provide a proper anesthesia care.
Po zabiegu
After the treatment, there may appear small wounds, which can be cleaned with soap and water, and should be disinfected with the use of products recommended by doctor. For larger wounds it is recommended to wear a plaster on the treated area. If necessary, a make-up can be applied to cover superficial scabs. The healing process takes from few days to 3-4 weeks.
When the wounds is healed, the skin should not be exposed immediately to the sun due to the risk of skin discoloration in the area of newly created tissue.
In most cases, the healing process is scarless. This is because the treated skin area is heals by granulation as opposed to the, so called, primary adhesion which causes that the mechanically cut skin accretes
Przeciwwskazania
• Active infection in the treated area (bacterial or viral infection, such as herpes)
• Tendency to form keloid scars or hypertrophic scars (medical consultation needed)
