The injected substance stimulates skin regeneration process and increases collagen production in the targeted skin area. Depending on patient’s needs, different effects can be achieved with the use of polylactic acid: from improvement in skin’s elasticity to increase in its volume, which helps to correct facial contours.

No preparation is required prior to the treatment. There may be applied anesthetic cream to the targeted skin area, but this is often not necessary since the product injected already contains local anesthetic.

The doctor who performs the treatment specializes in application of products. First, the treated skin area is cleansed and then substance injected. Patient may experience some discomfort and short burning sensation during the treatment. There is an ice pack applied to the treated area after the procedure, to help alleviate the pain. The doctor may also apply local anesthetic, if needed.

After injecting Polylactic acid under the skin the targeted area gets swollen which may give a wrong sensation that the results of the treatments are visible immediately. Polylactic acid works gradually and the final effect should be visible within 6 weeks after the treatment. After this time, the doctor assess if more Polylactic acid should be applied. The best results are usually achieved after 2-3 treatments, and their effects last up to 2 years (depending on patient’s age and depth of wrinkles). After the treatment, the patient may experience pain in the injection site, sensitivity to touch, swelling, redness and bruising, which can be covered by applying make-up. The doctor will massage the skin area where the substance was applied. For 10 days such a massage should be performed by patients themselves twice a day and then for the following 10 day, once a day for 5 minutes. This will help to avoid small clumps that may appear under the skin.
