ND-Yag laser emits a wavelength of 1064 nm. Dilated blood vessels on legs are larger in diameter than those on face. Usually they are of a venous origin and are located in the deeper skin layers. Therefore, it is necessary to use Nd-YAG laser, which can clear blood vessels with diameters of 4 mm. During the treatment, the laser beam is absorbed by hemoglobin and gets converted into heat. This raises the temperature of the blood and causes that coagulates and the vessel wall overgrows. The laser can remove not only individual blood vessels, but also feeder veins, angiomas and small varicose veins. If there are any contraindications to a laser surgery, then a sclerotherapy is recommended. It consists of injecting a special substance into blood vessels and, therefore, closing them. Sometimes the method of choice is miniphlebectomy, which removes affected vessels via a tiny skin incision. In case of large venous vessels, we qualify our patients for surgery in hospital, which is performed by attending physician.

The procedure takes few seconds to several minutes. During the procedure, the patient may experience burning or tingling sensation. The effects are not always immediately visible. Some lesions are being absorbed for few weeks. The number of treatments required depends on the extension and severity of lesions

It is recommended to avoid extreme temperatures (hot baths, sauna) and any type of activity that increase blood pressure such as fitness, gym, as well as carrying heavy shopping bags or in case of women - wearing high-heeled shoes.
